History

In 1946, Sothys was a beauty institute in Paris, where a list of exclusive customers enjoyed fine French products created by Dr. Hotz, a medical biologist. In 1966, the Mas family acquired the Sothys Institute, already installed on the Rue du Faubourg Saint-Honore in Paris. Mr. Bernard Mas, Chairman, then decided to develop and expand the beautiful Sothys range and increase its availability.

Mr. Mas devoted himself to setting up distinctive export markets for Sothys products. From then on, Sothys became a family business with an international vocation.

Sothys then installed its main production, distribution and administrative facilities in Brive, towards the center of France. It is from here that Sothys' chemists, skin care specialists and marketing personnel worked to fullfill the life-long dream of the Mas family.

In the late 1970's, Sothys opened the doors to the United States market. Here, under the direction of an esthetician, Mr. Christian Garces, Sothys continued its mark of excellence by bringing its French traditions to the American market.

Of course, the products themselves are the stars in the Sothys constellation. From creation to roll-out, the focus is always on authentic proven results. It may look good, smell good and feel good, but if it does not "work", it will not be found in the Sothys line. It is this dedication to creating the best professional skin care products in the world that has lead to a loyal following by professional estheticians. After all, their business and reputation depends on offering their own clients immediate, discernible results. With Sothys, quality is entrusted in good hands.

US Founder

Like every person, every company has its story. Sothys USA is such a company. Today considered one of the major movers in the professional skin care industry, Sothys USA's story is very much tied up with the personal history of Christian Garces. Indeed, they are inseparable.

Christian Garces was born in the lovely Mont Blanc valley of France to parents who were both professional estheticians in the country that created the esthetics industry.  Garces was raised in the world of skin care and beauty. At the end of the war, the family packed up its belongings and left for Cuba, then a tropical paradise that was the playground for the rich and famous. With their education and training in esthetics, the Garces were soon able to set up their own skin care clinic, making them forerunners in the introduction of professional esthetics to the Western Hemisphere.

Years later, the Garces family opted for one final exodus and made for Miami, Florida.  It was here that Garces began offering European skin care services and opened one of the first “day spas” in the United States.

It is at this point that Sothys finally came into the picture. On one of his many trips to France to find a professional line of products, he was introduced to Sothys and knew that he'd finally found a line that delivered the immediate, professional results that he was sure were achievable. He brought the line to the States for his exclusive use, and soon found that there were quite a few estheticians across the nation that were as desperate as he was for results. Within a few years, he was appointed sole distributor for Sothys in the United States, and this star has been on the rise ever since.

Call him visionary, call him industry leader, call him successful businessman, but at heart Christian Garces remains what he has always been - an esthetician who believes that proper skin care is a necessity for health and beauty.

Throughout those many years, Sothys has gone through many changes. But one thing has remained the same… and that is Sothys' commitment to the professional esthetician.

Global Vision

Today, through the leadership of Frederic Mas (left) and the creative direction of Christian Mas (right), the Sothys brand is now paving a new road in the beauty market, and starting some new traditions on their own along the way.  The Mas brothers are committed to the legacy of Sothys which marries effective scientifically-proven products with the professional advice provided by a Sothys-trained esthetician.

Now, through shared goals and aspirations, Frederic and Christian Mas have not only brought Sothys to new level of international recognition, they have also carried the tradition of the brand beyond what their father, Bernard Mas, Chairman of Sothys International, envisioned and have truly proven Sothys’ staying power as a major player in the beauty industry.

At the forefront, the Sothys’ vision is to create business programs and partnerships contributing directly to the spa’s business revenue, and ensuring a mutual success in the fast-evolving field of professional esthetics.
